San Francisco is a place that represents possibility. A place where outsiders have found a place to belong. Where artists, entrepreneurs, immigrants and dreamers arrived for a reason. To build something new. Then the story changed.During the pandemic, San Francisco became the poster child for the quick decline of cities. Headlines and internet chatter focused on empty offices, struggling retailers and public safety. All of a sudden it became a political touchpoint. “Doom Loop” entered the national vocabulary. For many, the city became less of a destination than a symbol.
It’s a city of booms and busts. Always has been. Reinvention has always been part of the deal. It’s also a city of contradictions. It’s in one of the most beautiful settings of any major city in the world. Yet, it’s also never tried that hard to be polished. It’s rough around the edges.
